Important Update on the Future of NHTAP
11/25/2025
Dear Members and Colleagues,
As a follow-up to our earlier communication regarding the organization’s future, we are writing to provide an update on the status of NHTAP.
Over the past year, the Board has continued to evaluate our options in light of ongoing financial challenges, declining membership, and the difficulty in filling several key leadership roles. Although these circumstances have limited our ability to operate at our usual capacity, the Board remains in place and committed to monitoring opportunities that may allow NHTAP to become active again in the future.
In appreciation for your support and participation over the years, the Board has negotiated a complimentary one-year membership with the National Association of Tax Professionals (NATP). This benefit is being provided at no cost to all individuals who were NHTAP members during 2023 and 2024. Securing this arrangement required considerable effort, and we are pleased to offer it as a way to ensure that our members continue to have access to quality professional resources during this transitional period.
You will receive an email directly from NATP with your new membership number and a confirmation of the amount paid on your behalf by NHTAP. Please note that your credit card or bank account was not charged—this is a free benefit provided by the association.
For those who already have an NATP membership, the payment made by NHTAP will extend your membership for an additional year. For members who are not currently part of NATP, your enrollment will be completed automatically, and no action is required.
As NHTAP remains in a reduced operational posture, we encourage members to look to NATP for future education, professional development, and practitioner support. Their resources and programs align closely with the needs of our tax and accounting community and will serve as a reliable resource while NHTAP explores its long-term direction.
Although we cannot predict what the future will hold, the Board remains active and open to opportunities that may allow NHTAP to resume operations or redefine its mission. Your ongoing support and engagement continue to matter, and we will keep members informed of any developments.
With appreciation,
The NHTAP Board of Directors
Your Input and Support Needed by August 30, 2025
Dear Members and Colleagues,
As we close the books on our fiscal year ending June 30, 2025, we are proud of the quality of our programs and the dedication of our leadership team. In terms of mission and effort, the year was a success. However, we must also share a sobering financial reality: due to significantly lower attendance at events and continued declines in membership, we experienced a substantial financial loss this past year.
In addition, we are facing increasing challenges in filling key leadership positions. As of now, the roles of President, Vice President of Education, Vice President of By-Laws, and Secretary remain vacant. We are also short several board members. Without these officers in place, we cannot realistically continue to operate or fulfill our mission of providing continuing education to our members.
We have reached out to other associations in the area to explore potential collaborations that could help reduce costs and broaden our reach. Unfortunately, these discussions have not led to any viable partnerships to date.
Given this situation, the Board of Directors is seriously considering placing the association on a one-year hiatus—suspending all operations temporarily. This pause would allow us to:
- Reassess our mission and operational model
- Explore possibilities such as dissolving, merging with another organization, or redefining our goals
- Conserve resources while maintaining essential protections like officers’ liability insurance (which we must keep active to safeguard the association’s assets)
Should we move forward with a hiatus, all membership dues for the current year will be refunded, and all outstanding program contracts will be canceled.
We are sharing this with you not as a final decision, but as a critical point in our deliberation. Your feedback, questions, suggestions, or alternative ideas are not only welcome but urgently needed. Please send us your thoughts by August 30, 2025.
Most importantly, if you are interested in preserving the association and believe in the value of its mission, we strongly encourage you to consider stepping into a leadership role. Even a few new volunteers could help us stabilize and continue our work. If you are willing to serve on the board or take on one of the open officer roles, please reach out to us at info@nhtap.org by August 30, 2025.
This is a pivotal moment in the life of our organization, and your voice and involvement could help shape its future.
With appreciation,
Mark Anderson

The New Hampshire Tax and Accounting Professionals (NHTAP) is the professional home for a diverse group of men and women working in the fields of accounting, auditing, tax preparation, bookkeeping, financial planning and other related disciplines.
Our members live and work in New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Vermont and beyond. Included in our membership are Public Accountants, Certified Public Accountants, Enrolled Agents, Accredited Business Advisors, Certified Financial Planners and a host of other professional designations. Most of our members serve the public either as sole practitioners or small firms.
NHTAP has traditionally offered five to seven meetings and one purely social gathering per year. The meetings and the social gatherings allow our members to network with one another and discuss matters of mutual interest, and provide opportunities to form friendships that lead to a higher level of professional expertise to the benefit of our clients. Because we have such a diverse membership, we believe we can offer a wider range of opportunities than can other associations that are comprised solely of individuals with a single professional designation, for example CPA.
Our association provides low-cost professional education for its members so that they might have access to the latest developments in accounting, taxation and related fields in order to better serve their clients. For example, with each meeting we offer one or more speakers and four or more hours of Continuing Professional Education (CPE). In addition we sponsor a “Gear Up” tax seminar (16 hours of CPE) each November or December.
